Bad news, Londoners – only two London areas are among the 50 best places to live in the UK.

To add insult to injury, the two areas, Kensington & Chelsea and Bromley, took only the 34^th and 37^th position on the whole list.

According to the Halifax Quality of Life Survey, the best place to live in the UK is Hart in Hampshire.

Here’s why Hart won:

The average life expectancy in Hart is the joint highest in the UK, with the male population typically living to the age of 83
More than 97% of Hart residents report being in good health
The average weekly wage in Hart is £839 compared to the UK average of £629
High employment rate, with four out of five 16 to 64-year-olds in work
Hart inhabitants enjoy 32.5 hours of sunshine per week compared with the national average of 29.5 hours

No areas from Wales, Northern Ireland or the south-west of England made the list.

The research, now in its ninth year, has been compiled by crunching data from the Office for National Statistics and the Met Office.

Martin Ellis, an economist at Halifax, said: “A regional comparison shows many areas in southern England score strongly in categories such as the labour markets and health.

“Northern areas tend to perform well on education and lower house prices in relation to earnings.

“In Scotland and Wales, several areas enjoy low traffic flows and burglary rates.”
