HOW LONG SHOULD WE MEDITATE

Bhai Sahib Kirpal Singh Gill

Having now completed the Basic VCM Seminar, you are ready to reap the benefits that result from regular practice of VCM. In addition to attending group VCM Meditation once or twice a week, it is also recommended that you do VCM on your own once or even twice a day.

The daily VCM meditations need only be of around 15 to 20 minutes duration. We recommend you start in the standing posture 3 or 4 times a week, with the remainder begun sitting down.

When you are ready to meditate find a clear and comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed and assume a relaxed posture (either sitting or standing). Make sure your legs and arms are not crossed and if standing allow the legs to flex slightly at the knees to ensure the legs are not too rigid.

Take a few deep breaths and give thanks for the opportunity to meditate in such a profound manner.

When you are ready, make an invocation to begin the Meditation. This can be said out loud or silently depending upon your circumstances. You may phrase the invocation in any manner that feels appropriate as long as it is in Praise of the Divine. You may choose to use the invocation below or modify it according to your own preference.

“Dear Lord, If it be thy Will,
May we now be permitted to receive thy Grace and Benevolence
from only the Highest and Purest Divine Source,
in the form of a free flow meditation,
so that once again we may be made whole and well
in Mind, in Body and in Spirit”

Then as a lead-in to the VCM, repeat the universal phrases…

“PRAISE DIVINE, GRACE SUBLIME,
LOVE DIVINE, TRUTH SUBLIME”

Sing these in long relaxed intonations 4 or 5 times until you feel relaxed. Then let the real meditation begin ie “LET GO, LET GOD”.Completely Surrender and allow whatever happens to happen.

After 15 or 20 minutes (or whatever time you have available, but no longer than 30 minutes), you can conclude the meditation by first asking to receive cleansing…

“And now, if it be thy will, may we now receive a thorough cleansing
Of any heaviness or negativity we may have taken on, so we are left whole and well and light of heart”

then after further surrendering for a few minutes, and once the cleansing feels complete,  once again sing the phrase listed above. You may end by giving a short invocation of

Thanks to the Divine for what you have just received.
